Canine Massage Therapy

Our ultimate aim is to help your dog stay as fit and healthy as possible, for as long as possible. For canine massage therapy to be effective we need to treat a dog over a period of time; in most cases, just a ‘one off’ session will not have the desired effect. This is especially the case if your dog is suffering from a long-term, chronic muscular compensatory issue, whereby each subsequent treatment session will start to ‘peel back the layers’ of muscular discomfort.

  • First treatment will help to ease tension and help your dog become familiar with the treatment.
  • Second treatment will help to improve muscle health.
  • Third or more treatments will reinforce change and aid mobility.

We usually recommend an initial course of 3 or 4 treatments, with a week to 10 days between each session, as this produces the best results.

For those dogs who suffer from chronic orthopaedic and age related conditions, such as osteoarthritis, hip dysplasia or spondylosis we would recommend follow-up maintenance treatments, where we see your dog about once a month, to help keep them comfortable, more flexible and more mobile.

A full massage treatment usually takes 45-60 minutes. Our first session will involve a detailed consultation, as well as a full massage treatment (1.5 hours in total). The information gathered at the consultation will help us to understand more about your dog’s general background, activity level, behaviour, feeding schedule and medical/veterinary history.
